The journey to expert
Three core 16-hour workshops (eight two-hour sessions each) take you from self-service reporting to advanced DAX, then a short Data & AI track adds Copilot. Each level carries a certification component and feeds a First Campus certification.
Fundamentals · 16 hrs
Connect, transform, model & share
- The Power BI ecosystem and interface, connecting to Excel, CSV, SQL Server, Web and SharePoint
- Power Query: basic and advanced transformations, merging, appending and cleaning data
- Data modelling basics and an introduction to DAX, measures versus calculated columns
- Visualisations, interactive dashboards with slicers and drill-down
- Publishing to Power BI Service, row-level security, and a final hands-on project

Data models, DAX & the Service
- Star versus snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables, multi-source models
- Building and optimising relationships, hierarchies and model performance
- Calculated columns and tables, DAX measures and CALCULATE
- Time intelligence and advanced DAX, closing with a capstone in Power BI Service

Master DAX & optimisation
- Aggregation, statistical, logical, conditional, filter and table functions
- Advanced iterators, table manipulation and DAX time intelligence
- Performance tuning with DAX Studio and real-time analytics with Data Activator
- Ideation and governance for a large data estate, with an introduction to Microsoft Fabric

Power BI with Copilot
- Use Copilot to generate insights and report summaries from natural language
- Build visualisations and interactive dashboards with Copilot suggestions
- Prerequisites: Power BI (free), Fabric F2 with Power BI Pro, and a 60-day Copilot for Power BI trial
