A full e-commerce channel for Staffwear in three months
A full online shopping and fulfilment experience for Staffwear, built on nopCommerce and Azure and live in three months to keep sales moving through lockdown.
When South Africa went into lockdown in 2020, retailers that relied on physical footfall had a sudden problem. Staffwear, a supplier of safety clothing and equipment, needed to add a full e-commerce experience to its existing in-store channel, and quickly.

The approach
We built on the proven nopCommerce framework for a complete online shopping and fulfilment experience, on a SaaS stack on Microsoft Azure. The biggest challenge with any new online channel is how it relates to existing systems and processes, and that integration is where most of the effort and cost goes. We weighed up full integration against keeping some of the more human- and system-heavy steps, like product returns, partly manual, which let us move fast. Training staff so the impact on existing business processes was understood was a key part of the project. Azure’s serverless resources meant environments came up quickly and securely and scale close to real time.
03
The outcome
Staffwear had a full online catalogue and end-to-end shopping experience live in three months, with integrated real-time payments. Trade customers get their own sub-catalogues and preferential pricing, and payments run through PayGate across all major cards.
We knew that our clients, using our current online catalogue, needed a full e-commerce experience to support our existing in-store sales channel.
