PPC supplies materials into the basic-services sector across Southern Africa, with eleven cement factories spread over several countries. It ran separate Active Directory domains in each country and its own Exchange instances, and head-office limitations meant a new domain was needed to consolidate the regional domains into a single forest, with all mailboxes moving to one Microsoft 365 environment.
02
The approach
PPC’s teams worked with our Platform Advisory Services group to plan and run the migration, following Microsoft’s plan, design, execute and deploy approach for cloud migrations. We migrated users, groups and workstations from the on-premises domains into the new forest-enabled domain, moved mailboxes from on-premises Exchange to Office 365, and consolidated selected mailboxes from a legacy tenant into the new one.
03
The outcome
PPC now runs a single domain spanning five African countries, with its email on one Microsoft 365 environment. The legacy, standalone Office 365 tenant was decommissioned, and the on-premises Exchange mailboxes were brought together in one place.
