First Digital delivered a modern data warehouse for a leading agricultural supplier in South Africa, providing farmers with a wide range of products and services to support their farming operations.

This client recognized the need to modernise its data infrastructure to streamline operations and better serve its customers. They aimed to create a trusted source of data that would allow them to make data-driven decisions and improve their overall efficiency.

Leveraging Microsoft Azure Cloud technologies such as Power BI and Azure Synapse Analytics, First Digital delivered a modern data warehouse where all the clients' data was centralized and curated.

Working closely with the agricultural producer, First Digital developed a modern data warehouse built on top of the Azure platform. After undertaking an SDLC-based Plan, Design, Execute and Deploy methodology for data warehouse development, a solution meeting the following key objectives was delivered:

  • Centralisation and Scalability: A consolidate data from different sources into a single location, making it easier to manage and analyse with agile scaling options.
  • Agility and Accessibility: A modern data warehouse that is flexible and agile, allowing our client to quickly adapt to changing business requirements and data sources.
  • Security: A robust single identity security measures in place to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

A crucial element of the data warehouse development focused on the data modelling process, which involved organising and structuring the data in a way that made it easy to query and analyse.

The new data warehouse allowed the client to migrate away from QlikView. With the new data infrastructure, they were able to leverage like Power BI to gain deeper insights into their data and make more informed business decisions.

Summary and Benefits

First Digital and their agriculture client developed a new data warehouse solution. The benefits of the solution:

  • Ensures consistency and accuracy of data across stakeholders
  • Enables agility in responding to changes in the business environment
  • Single source of truth improves decision-making by providing up-to-date and accurate data to decision-makers
